The delegates from the “mainline” Protestant churches’ World Council of Churches’ (WCC) convention at Porto Alegre, Brazil, stated:
“Our country responded (to the September 11, 2001 attacks) by seeking to reclaim a privileged and secure place in the world, raining down terror on the truly vulnerable among our global neighbors … entering into imperial projects that seek to dominate and control for the sake of national interests…. Nations have been demonized and God has been enlisted in national agendas that are nothing short of idolatrous.” *1
We Hold These Truths applaud these words, and we have something to add of our own. Consider the mainliners’ humble and repentant tone of this detail story compared to the arrogant and insolent self-righteousness of some leaders of the “born-again” evangelical sects, who take their profession of belief in Jesus Christ as badges of moral perfection, without the least concern for their support of Serial wars.
These self-professed “Christian-Zionists” (this writer was once among them) are defilers of many of the word of God’s own Instrument, Jesus Christ. While they ignore His words, they affirm Jesus to be God in human flesh. Many evangelicals deny Jesus own words so openly that they can no longer honesty study them, but use concocted stylized lesson plans in dealing with the New Testament.
