Linda Compton was the beloved wife of one of We Hold These Truths founding directors, Tom Compton. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 1, 2016. Linda was loved by all who knew her. She was a diligent student of the Bible and taught women’s Bible studies for over 20 years. Linda was a perfect example of a compassionate, Christian peacemaker, in thought and deed.
This 28-minute podcast is a tribute to Linda, focusing on her courage to change her course, as related to the Bible studies she had been teaching for years. Only when you listen to the whole podcast will you understand the importance of what Linda did. Jesus taught: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” [Matthew 5:9]. Oh, that more Christians would take that command to heart!
There were two people I learned and most respected, who practiced living food or plant based diet, and I observed their positive and miraculous results. It was Bernando LaPallo and Linda Compton. Why? Truth ,to me,is efficient(perfect performance with the least amount of time and energy) performance,They both were children in spirit, had faith in their G-d or high spirit, studied both bibles, they had a zest for life because they knew how to laugh(increases respiration and red healthy blood) and not take themselves so seriously. They saw themselves as part of a” we society”(feelers who see the big picture and are smart) and not intellectuals or seeing the small tight picture(this restricts looseness and flexibility) and ego driven or an ” I society.” I see many engineers ,computer addicted people, and dictatorial or agenda driven people stuck on themselves and not others. I felt Bernando and Linda were intuitives (contrary thinkers=feelers) and listened to G-d’s words and to all knowing what was best for their physical body and most importantly their soul. Both were soulful people and not thinkers. Both were unselfish and cared more for others more than themselves. Both were gentle spirits who were teachers because the bible talks about helping your fellow man and woman. When I like and respect a smart and efficient fighter, like Linda.I do that to learn to be a better holistic doctor, self healer and increase my intuitive ability to listen to my body and heal others.
Feelers act are good observers and thinkers are pushing their message without regards to others. People always want to help dummies and not experts. Both Bernando and Linda were dumb like a fox and they felt good helping others,IMO. They both made me laugh and taught me, gently, with laughter so we both did not close our vision blinders. I have observed opposites attract and make good marriages.Yogi Berra said,”you can observe a lot by watching.”
I have heard Reverend John Hegge speak on TV and listened to Rev Shuller and Rev. Joel O’Steen. They all seem to be supporters of Israel because reading the bibles(old and new) are history books of the past and future events. I lost my best friend and mentor ,Gary Bird, who was President of the Tempe Jaycees before I took over. He died on the 99th floor in the second tower during 911 ruthless and selfish killings. When you make friends with a bully they bully you more. When you stand up to them and fight back they respect you and you become friends. Didn’t that ever happened to you as a child growing up?
You ought to read their bible ,the Koran and Sharia Law, which we are being lenient with in this country today and in Europe. Christians and Jews are infidels and the the Moslem’s G-dly mission is to destroy the infidel. I was born Jewish, believe in what Israel is doing to create peace, they are a vital ally to America, they are innovators in technology, health advancements, and employ Arabs on their farms and businesses.
Everyday Palestinians are lobbing bombs from Palestine to their neighbors in Israel. Their motivated by hatred. If you have gone to Israel you see what Israel has done to develop the little land they have, preserve the water they hold precious to survival, but look at the way Palestinians have developed their land. Many carry an entitlement attitude and do not understand you give what you get.
If you and Linda were anti semetic ,I did not observe or feel that. However intelligent people(thinkers) are not intuitives (feelers) . Thinkers all lack faith and trust and go against what they see, with g-d’s eyes, and do something wrong to do it right. I have observed this with developing 18 visually intuitive champions. The flow chart is see the small tight picture-over think-doubt-worry-fear-go into inefficient action. Feelers who see easy-trust in slow time-feel it-trust what they already saw themselves do-and do it efficiently because they already saw what G-d showed them with trusting childlike imagination. This is the opposite of analyzing and psychological visualization. The mind is the enemy, but the soul has no limitations and is creative. I know if Bernando and Linda were still alive they would understand and appreciate my clinical observations.
I,honestly, don’t feel you would understand what I have discovered. My dad taught me,never help experts because these are intellectuals who are not dumb like a fox ,like Linda and Bernando,IMO and my astute observation of their actions. Actions speak louder than words.Truth is only efficient performance, but this is not politically correct. The liars or thinkers are in control. I try not to be a thinker because they are behind time.Bernando and Linda were ahead of real time ,loose ,had fun, trusted the high spirit, cared for others more than themselves, were honest and had faith. You can observe a lot by watching.
Dr. Jeff, thank you for your kind words about my dear Linda. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. It’s very interesting that you included Bernando LaPallo with Linda in your tribute. Bernando, who lived to the ripe and vigorous age of 114, was a soft spoken follower of Jesus, just like Linda, who both demonstrated their Christianity with their actions and concerns for others. We created two video tributes to Bernando on the occasion of his 114th birthday. You can view them here: “Educating Bernando LaPallo About Palestine on His 114th Birthday”
We can’t agree with you on your assessment of Israel. Sadly, current actions by Israel make it look like it is on the road to national suicide that would prove disastrous to both Jews and Palestinians living there. This concept of national suicide comes from a book we republished, “Holocaust II: Saving Israel from Suicide,” that was written in 1990 using primarily Jewish sources. I” be glad to provide you with a copy. Thanks and Blessings, Tom Compton
Dearest Tom & All who knew and loved Linda
” My Sister in Christ”
Praise God for bringing Linda into my life; she was an immeasurable blessing. She changed my life and taught me to know Jesus more intimately and serve Him through the classes she taught, her behavior and strong desire to truly know, obey and serve God.
Linda had an enormous thirst for knowledge. She took classes frequently and studied diligently. She was a precise teacher of God’s word, extremely knowledgeable, hardworking, capable and yet she was the most humble person I have met.
Linda was God’s answer to my prayer for a friend. The first time we had lunch togather we were amazed to learn one of us could start a sentence and the other one could finish it. Prayer was the most important attribute of our friendship. We usually prayed weekly and sometimes daily over our 20 year friendship. Linda was always there when she was needed. She taught me the importance of studying my bible carefully and serving God. She was gentle yet hardworking and capable.
I look forward to spending eternity with my sister in Christ in the beautiful presence of God our loving Father, Jesus our Redeemer and the Holy Spirit our comforter and spirit of Truth..
Nancy, Linda cherished your friendship and counted it as one of her most dear. You and Linda were truly prayer warriors. Thank you for this wonderful memory of Linda. Blessings, Tom
I remember when I first met Linda. We were working at Hewitt Associates. I sat across from her at the Hewitt lunch table and she began a conversation with me. I remember thinking, “There is a bright sparkle in this woman’s eyes.” I could see happiness in her soul through those eyes. It struck me as odd that we talked as if we were friends and had known each other for a long time. There were more lunch encounters that followed. What I observed about Linda is that she was a kind and contented person with a tranquil spirit about her. Linda seemed at such peace in a high-pressure work environment. It was a compelling and engaging quality about her that I can’t forget. I had lunches with the lady, but you had 25 years with Linda. You, my friend, were truly blessed.
In Memory,
Mark
Mark, your friendship over the years was very important to Linda and me, too. Linda loved your ministry and proved with her continued support of it over the years. We always looked forward to hearing about another one of your missionary “adventures” in Russia where you & Melinda spent 7 years there in the early 1990’s. And, in subsequent years we marveled how you and Melissa worked to expand God’s kingdom. Thank you for this memory and Blessings, Tom
What a beautiful and absolutely true tribute!!! I pondered your thought that “everybody could take Linda in large doses.” That was certainly true for me! It caused me to stop and think what an amazing Jesus-like quality that is! I’m sure you miss her sweet presence. Though at times the days seem long, it will be “just a blink of the eye” before we are all there together. What a glorious time that will be. Thank you for sharing these precious memories.
Peace to you,
Melinda
Melinda, thank you for this moving memory and tribute about dear Linda. Your work with orphans in Russia really inspired Linda. Thank you and Blessings, Tom.
This was an informative and compelling podcast, underlining the need for some of the most prominent, contemporary Christian Evangelical leaders to genuinely align and adhere to all of the fundamental teachings of Jesus Christ, in particular the practice of being peacemakers. Worthy of admiration, Linda Compton, a woman whom unfortunately I did not have the pleasure of meeting, had the wisdom to part ways with some of the teachings of mainstream Evangelicals, when she realized that a most important Christian principle of actively being peacemakers, one held dear in her heart, was not being practiced by this group.
Linda’s personal decision to make a pivotal change in the spiritual teachings she would accept, support and take to her Bible study groups to share with her students also shows the courage of a strong woman and one whom I’m sure emerged as an even more exceptional leader. Linda will always live in the hearts of all those who knew her, as she was a gentle and noble soul, with a Christ-like spirit.
Sofia, thank you for your kind, thoughtful and perceptive comments. I was moved by them. Blessings, Tom
