Project Strat Gate letter to John McArthur on April 18
(April 20, 2007)
Dear Charles,
Thank you for your letter to Grace Community Church, dated April 18,
2007, informing us that Project Strait Gate will hold a vigil at our
church on the morning of April 22, 2007.
To be honest, we are a bit confused as to why you would target our
church for one of your peaceful protests. Though we believe that the
Bible teaches a literal future for ethnic Israel (in the Millennial
Kingdom), we do not take a position on the military actions or political
decisions of the current Israeli government. Moreover, though we believe the Bible commands us to submit to our government officials (1 Pet. 2:13-14), and that the government has the right to bear the sword (Rom.13:3-4), our church does not have an official political position on US military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, or anywhere else in the MiddleEast.
In fact, if you have read John MacArthur s book, Why Government Can t Save You, you will find that we greatly downplay politics in our church, focusing instead on that which can truly impact the world: the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Since your concerns seem to be with current events in the Middle East
(events concerning which our church is uninvolved), we believe your
efforts might be more effective elsewhere. However, if you come, please understand that there are legal consequences for the disruption of a worship service or for trespassing on private property; we trust there will be no such incidents.
With thanks,
Nathan Busenitz
