Over 100 evangelical, Christian Presbyterian theologians, including the highly respected, Dr. RC Sproul, were signatories to “An Open Letter to Evangelicals and Other Interested Parties: The People of God, the Land of Israel, and the Impartiality of the Gospel.” They asserted that: “At the heart of the political commitments in question are two fatally flawed propositions. First, some are teaching that God’s alleged favor toward Israel today is based upon ethnic descent rather than upon the grace of Christ alone, as proclaimed in the Gospel. Second, others are teaching that the Bible’s promises concerning the land are fulfilled in a special political region or “Holy Land,” perpetually set apart by God for one ethnic group alone. As a result of these false claims, large segments of the evangelical community, our fellow citizens, and our government are being misled with regard to the Bible’s teachings regarding the people of God, the land of Israel, and the impartiality of the Gospel.” If you’re looking for a well reasoned, biblical response to pre-millennial dispensationalism (sometimes known as Christian Zionism or Neo-Christianity). This letter is worth studying.
This does not name which of the Presbyterian churches. The USA composed the boycott against Israel (learned from WHTT and Inter. news) with others. This was condemned as expected by Israeli ne’er-do-wells , who were temporarily between jobs . But this is good news anyway and I can not be too surprised that they were Presbyterian. But it is the best news since an Orlando, Presbyterian minister refused to recant and apologize for preaching Truth 9 years ago.
Paul, these are not PCUSA (Presbyterian Churches USA) that would be considered a mainline denomination. The PCUSA has come out in favor for peace and justice for Palestinians with their “Zionism Unsettled” study guide to the Israel/Palestine conflict. (Also, see: “Presbyterian Church Attacked For Publishing ‘Zionism Unsettled,’ Others Applaud” and “Jewish group attacks PCUSA for exposing oppression of Philistines“). The Presbyterians signing this open letter would be more fundamental or evangelical than the PCUSA. Dr. RC Sproul is a partial preterist in his theology. Good news, indeed.
